Build thread for 95 country xj

So I am in the planning stages of my build. I am going to use this for my daily driver and occasionally overlanding type trips. Right now as it sits it has what looks to be about a 3 inch lift and 31 inch tires on it. My goal is first and foremost to make it as reliable as possible, then just the usual stuff like bumpers, wheels, tires, lift and re gear. I'm planning on running either 32s or 33s and lift wise I am looking at the rubicon express 4.5 inch short arm super flex. The only thing I'm unsure about is, do I really need to go with the super flex since I don't plan on trails that require that much flex? Will the on road and off road manners be that much better to justify spending the extra money? Thanks in advance for any advice and hopefully I will be posting a lot in here

The difference between the flex joint and super ride is not huge. You just need to decide if you want a quieter on road ride or better flex off road. If you need an entire lift I would personally piece one together. Get a better double sheer trac bar and adjustable arms.

Welcome to NAXJA, toss up some pictures of the Jeep.

I'll second what DJ said - the difference isn't that much in either category. However, I will say that the superflex joints in my jeep WAY outlasted any bushings, so just from the maintenance standpoint, I'd lean towards the superflex joint suspension.

Also, looking at Rubicon Express' website, it appears that they only offer a super-flex kit for 4.5".

Look for full leaf packs for longevity and some drop brackets to keep the ride quality in the nicer range and should be good to go. :compwork:

So for the money is the re lift good or is there better for the price? I have it priced at $1250 through Morris 4x4 and that's with new leaf springs. I would piece one together but I don't know enough about lifts for these things to know which components to buy from who.

Welcome! Lift kits are great but if you can you might find it better to piece together your own lift to get exactly what you want. A lot will boil down to how much you want to spend. I would suggest OME (old man Emu) for coils, shocks and leafs. RE is good and a lot of people like them, but for what you are looking for I would explore OME instead. As for components you would also need extended brakelines, new track bar and a few other little nick nacks. Would also suggest getting a new tie rod, either a ZJ one or solid from a vendor. Linked some stuff from some vendors on here that would be more than willing to help you out.

Control arms
You could use RE or get Currie

Or ironman makes some killer stuff and a vendor on here as well.

If recommend lower control arm drop brackets on the frame side.
With 4.5" lift and control arms climbing to moon anyone's springs are going to ride harsh.

Going with lift put together might not be a bad idea. Something like the 4.5 rough country.

These are good kits

Because you sound unsure of what you want or need I feel this gets you lifted with suspension that will ride good. 4.5 without drop brackets will ride horrible.

You can then up grade steering and other components as needed

Good luck
