Dur what's up with this extra gasket?

I order an OEM thermostat and gasket from my local dealer and this is what comes in the box...



I was expecting to see gaskets 1 and 2, but not 3. Is that just an extra gasket or do I actually use it?

Also I could use some general advice on putting these gaskets on. I'll prob use some Ultra Blue RTV silicone gasket stuff generally on gasket 1 especially around the bolt holes.

Use #1 or #3. If you use #1 put the red seal towards the head. #1 is the 'newer' gasket. #1 or #3 will work fine. Never tried #2.

I think #3 is for the TJ/WJ 4.0 layout
