Anyone gut a late model FPR/filter?

I am getting ready to do a return line install, along with an external fuel pressure regulator on the BW rig. I'm planning on keeping the factory hardline at this point in time and simply gutting the factory pressure regulator at the tank.

I'm Curious if anyone has gutted the regulator before and you might have any tips.
