241 / 242 direct swap in 4.0, AW4 ?

231 / 242 direct swap in 4.0, AW4 ?

I have a good 242 in my shed. I want to put it into my 96 4.0, AW4.
Is this a direct swap ?....from a J231.

Swapping J231 for J242

I have a good J242 in my shed. I would like to swap it for the J231 that is in the XJ but is a bit worn. Is this a direct swap?

As long as the input spline count and shaft length is the same, and the speedometer output is compatible, it will swap. You will want a 242 shift gate and indicator bezel.

Look at the red tag on the two and post the exact model numbers and production dates

That can all be swapped but its kind of annoying to do
