Wipers come on/off with the lights.

So at some point during a wheeling trip last night, the wipers decided they would turn on whenever the lights are on. They go off if I turn the lights off and they still speed up if I flip the lever to high speed, they just wont turn off.

I figure I have a short somewhere or the switch is broken... anyone encountered this before? On a 98 XJ.

Must be a short between the parking light circuit and the wiper circuit. Check up under the dash where the wires go up the column. Probably a rubbed through wire somewhere.

Just when the headlights are on or when the parking lights are on?

If only with headlights on, I would guess that the multifuntion switch on the steering column is bad. Seen wired stuff from that switch that went away when replaced.
