Hi
Sorting out my new 99 classic. PO put a new starter on but looks like he hacked wiring. There should just be 3 wires coming from starter? What guage wire should go directly from the starter to the battery?

thx

Also on a factory wiring harness the 2 large red wires going from + post go where? Should you only have 2 large wires going to + post if all stock ? Just trying to figure out how much to replace /fix

thx

AFAIK, theres the main +12v that goes directly to the batt, and the negative green wire that goes to the ecu or starter relay.

Theres a short cable that connects the starter motor and the solenoid, but you shouldnt have to **** with that, as its part of the starter assembly.

X2^ on everything except the explanation of the green wire-- it is not a negative wire-- it's positive current from the starter relay that gets fed power when the key is in "crank" mode. The starter is grounded at it's mounting bolts, constant power is available for the starter motor through the big red cable, and the small green wire sends power to the solenoid to engage the starter motor when the ignition switch sends power to the starter relay (key is in crank mode)
