Can anyone tell me if i have to change the carrier when changeing from 3.55 to 4.56 gears.

hey not to hi-jack but do you need a new carrier going from 3.55s to 4.88s? I upgraded from 3.55s to 4.56s and can't remember if I was able to use the stock carrier but want to upgrade to from my current 4.56s to 4.88s.

D30: yes, new carrier, D44: No, just get thick gears, Chrysler 8.25: From what I can find, Yes you need a new carrier.
Don't need a new carrier for an 8.25,
side note you will be shaving a tooth or two to get the cross pin in.

Well then I stand corrected! I couldn't find "thick" gears for a 8.25 so I just assumed that a new carrier was needed. Glad somebody knew haha

Did the very swap a month ago ... As stated, going from 3.55 to 4.56 will require a new 3.73+ carrier for the D30. No carrier is needed for the C8.25.

Tip: ZJ's with v8s have 3.73s, junkyard carriers are like $15-20. Yes, a low pinion and high pinion share carriers
