XJ Loss of power and no start

I have a 96 XJ. I have three problems:

1. At times cruising up the road at 55, it will lose power like you lifted your foot off the pedal and then all of a sudden it will regain power.

2. Also if in a line of traffic like say a drive- thru for awhile it will sputter and die and not restart until it cools for about 15-20 minutes.

3. The throttle body was caked with carbon, so I cleaned it with intake cleaner and now it idles very fast, seemed to help somewhat with problem number 1.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like you need to remove the idle air control and clean it out too, probably packed with carbon build up as well. Check the TPS as well to make sure it isn't gummed up while you're in there.
