Clockspring swap

Don't hurt me, this is my first post, maybe someone could direct me to the right place. I have a 97' and a 00' xj, I am selling the 00' and wanted to snatch the cruise for my 97'. I know the clock spring from the 00' with cruise will work in the 97'. I read that it might now work the other way around. Anyone have any expirience with this?

All 1997-2001 cruise and non cruise parts, and airbag parts will interchange, except for the steering wheel switches.

97-98 CC switches only work in 97-98's, and 99-01 switches only work in 99-01's

That's what I needed to know. I'll just pick up the right switches at the JY. Thanx
