testing power window motor

Need to determine if my passenger window motor is dead.

I unplugged the connection in the door at the motor. Ran a jumper wire from the battery directly to each side of the connector on the window motor. I got no movement up or down.

Shouldn't this process have gotten the window to go up or down?

I do not hear any motor noises.

I have 12 volts at the connector on the power side.

you'll want/need to ground the other wire in the plug to get the motor to run. It's a D.C. motor, so (+) to one wire and (-) to the other will cause it to run one direction, and the reverse will result in the motor running the other way.

shorty is right

keep in mind that straight wiring the motor bypasses the whole electrical system and may work but when plugged in won't. You would more than likely still have a bad motor.

If you get 12 volts on the harness side and you have a good ground then the motor is probably bad.
