ive got 4.5 lift and just installed long arms. looking for some shocks up front to take advantage of them. can i just throw on some longer shocks? thanks

Yes, you can install longer shocks. Cheapo RC, Rancho, etc if you are aiming for rock crawling or similar. For go-fast, better ride. Bilstein 5100s min

if you want a decent longer shocks go with bilsyein 5150 (255/75) valving and get shock adapters, you'll get more droop with a longer shock or BPE's and shock stud to eye adapters.

Flex your rig, install proper bumpstops and measure,thats the only proper way!

yeah i really need to adjust the bump stops. right now i cant afford to buy some serious shocks. just looking for a good choice of a cheaper shock with more down travel then up if possible. i cant remember what length i have now on my 4.5 lift but its not enough!
