Main Harness **melting**?!?

The 88MJ this time.

OK, so I've never run into this before. The "convoluted hose" that envelops the main wiring harness coming forward along the head is melting. When I first got this MJ it did not have an aluminum "heat shield" above the manifolds and the heat partially melted the hose (conduit?)

Picked a shield up at the JY. Installed with new fuel rail, 19 lb. injectors, fuel pressure regulator. Starts and runs great. Then I get out of the truck at the lake and get smoke, first thought it was steam, but smells like rubber burning. Pop the hood and find the hose (conduit) is half melted and gooping down on the manifold.

What can I put around the wire harness to insulate it from the heat. Same set-up on the XJ, not a problem. I'm just a bit worried about the actual wire insulation melting.
