Aux fan override reassurance ?'s

So i'd like to run a switch for my aux fan so I can turn it on when I want. I've read a number of tutorials and just want to make sure I understand it correctly.

I take the ground wire from the fan, splice into that with something like http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/BWD0/CT317.oap?ck=Search_splice_-1_2894&showStores=true#at

then I take the third part of the spliced end and run it to my switch. Also putting in a ground wire for the switch, grounding it to the body.

This is one of the guides I followed

http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f64/easy-electric-fan-override-13929/

which seemed the most straight forward w/pics. Also read

Is it really this simple? Splice and run the third wire to the switch? Is that the safest way to do it so it still utilizes the relay or is there something i'm missing? I don't want to have to add another relay if I don't have to...
