does this need to go in further?

does the cam need to go in further? i feel like it needs to be seated more.

there is some of the machined surface still sticking out.

i tried to bump it in with a rubber mallet gently but it didnt move any further and i cant get the timing gear onto it.

NO. It sits in the cam sprocket and it will actually be pulled out a bit more into the sprocket. What you are knocking the cam against is the rear cam plug. Hope you didn't knock it out.

well i didnt whack it i just gave it a small tap and it didnt move at all. good to know there is a plug back there.
