Distributorless Timing

What started as a waterpump replacement has turned into resealing the whole darn engine. The timing cover bolts had lossened and blown oil back on the entire engine. I replaced major seals, gaskets and O rings and am down to the two left. The question is about the hall effect switch(?) that replaced the distributor. On an older distributor I knew how to remove and 'timed' back into place using the position of the rotor.

What's the trick with this distributorless set up? How do I know where #1TDC is with relation to this component?

Bring #1 to TDC on the compression stroke. Align the hole in sensor drive body to hole in rotor. Secure with toothpick. Align oil pump drive. Drop in with opening for sensor pointing rearward. Secure hold down, remove tooth pick, install sensor.
