'96 motor swap ??'s

I have a 96 with a cracked block. Head is still good though I believe, I need to go have it tested. Will any 4.0 head fit any 4.0 block? Is 97 A different wiring harness than a 96?? I know the electrical fan off of it wouldn't plug into my buddies 97and the oil pressure sending unit wouldnt work in my wifes 98.

heads should fit no problem, maybe not a renix, not too sure about those

Does your 96 have a temp port on driver's side rear corner of the head? 97s do not have the port. This feeds the dash gauge. The sensor and other connectors changed mid year in 96 so you might want to swap your sensors over to the newer engine. Cut the harness and solder the fan direct or use male-female connectors.
