Hi all

I have a jeep cherokee country; 1998; auto; 6 cylinder.

i hear soem grating noises commign from the rear

it usually happens when i take foot of the pedal; and i hear the grating noise more clear
liek a continuous rumble with metal noise.

any sugegstions on what this could be, and also what approach could i use to resolve it?

many thanks

sounds like rear driveshaft u-joints!
when you put it in drive, is there a slight pause then you feel the vehicle jerk a lil bit?

get under the vehicle, and put hands on the driveshaft, you shouldnt be able to feel ANY play by hand.

when this happened to me, i took it as a sign that i needed a SYE kit, so i installed one with an aftermarket driveshaft, but if youre at a reasonable lift height theres no reason why you cant just change out the u-joint --assuming thats whats wrong--.

whatever you do, do it quick! by the time mine was like this, it was very, very loose. i waited for the sye to arrive, i didnt want to mess with the stock stuff.

what kinda lift you running?
