Mysterious knock?

So Im relatively new to the whole Jeep modification world but Im hoping to get some kind of an understanding of at least the basics so I can not only keep my heap running, but hopefully make it into a rig I can be proud of. That being said, there are a number of issues that have come up. The main being that every time I hit a large bump or take a hard turn there is a knock that comes from the driver side front tire. Sounds like a metal-on-metal knock to me but as I said Im no expert. Its a 98' cherokee sport if that helps at all. Any input would be appreciated.

Start with what moves in the suspension/steering.

Take a look at the shock mounting, UCA and LCA bushings, sway bar bushings.

There is an aluminum spacer between the steering gear box and and the unibody--they like to fragment. Check the steering gear box mounting bolts. Inspect the unibody in that area for cracks.
