We wanted a fender that would not crack when smashed into a tree or rock, a fender that was strong yet looked good. What we came up with is a bolt-on tube fender that is a direct replacement to the stock fenders.

We are going to sell it with a few options to help keep prices low, they will start at $325 for the bare tube fender set without any filler pieces or weld tabs between the tubes, this is great if you want to put your own sheet metal in and save some money.

They are also going to be available with aluminum inserts or plastic inserts, we are still waiting on pricing for those two options.

The fenders will be online for purchase in the bare model later today on our website.

What are the specs on the tubing? How do they mount? The stock mounting can barely handle the weight of the stock fenders:). Cool idea if you figured that out, got any unmounted pics? Cheers

They are now online. http://www.wilsonfabworks.com/featured/xj-bolt-on-tube-fenders/

They are made from 1.5" .120 HREW tube, they bolt to the stock mounts and we are working on a unibody tie in along with a crossbar that will connect both fenders together over the engine.

Hm, interesting approach.

Will the proposed crossbar be able to be used with stock fenders? Depending on how it mounts, I'm thinking it could be analogous to a strut brace and useful for reducing unibody flex.

Yea we are still working on the design of the cross member and maybe making it work with stock fender.

Hmm....

How would the fenders look without the tabs, on factory fenders?

I'm thinking that painted body color all around, they could come out pretty smooth looking.

Very interested in what you come up with. Thanks for offering the XJ crowd more options. Sounds like I have to work more overtime to pay for future mods. :D

Something that resembles the JCR style quarter/fender armor that incorporates a bushwacker style flat flare, as a single unit would be cool......but then again, so would being able to fly.

33" x 12.5" tire, RE 5.5 Coils and Deaver G10 Leaf Pack.

Do they stick out any further than a stock fender and flare? What do they weigh? Do you have any additional pics of mounting points, or install pics?

I hear ya. After SoCal Fest Ill push that to the top of my list.

So for the tube part what size do you all want to see? 1" or 1.5", DOM or HREW optional?

No pics of these installed? My jeep is white and I think some of these would look sweet painted black with white prefinished aluminum stuck in there.

While I understand what you're saying about getting caught on things, some of us live in states with ridiculous vehicle laws, and 3" just wouldn't cut it for tire coverage.

Maybe a tube fender with an optional bolt on flair, similar to Metal cloak's design for TJs, would work.

Oh, and 1" is tiny, I say 1.5" dom or hrew.

I have been wanting a set of tube fenders. Please give us an update. I know thats what everyone is asking for, But I am desperate for fenders because mine are "toast".

WebDog

The full tube fender was removed from sale due to lack of interest and the cost to build was very high, demanding a high sale price.

I am working on getting some new machinery in house and once that is done my production times should drop allowing me to finally have some time to prototype some new stuff, steel fender flairs with panel armor.

Whats the possibility of bolt on tube flares?

WebDog
July 24th, 2011, 17:01
I am planning of a fender / quarter armor with steel tube flair. that would bolt on to the stock fenders.

Demolition_x
July 24th, 2011, 19:15
that would be awesome. I would love something for the front. Wheeling in mud and water with tub doors sucks without fender flares.

As soon as I get the CNC plasma table finished this will be one of the many new products to show up. The build times will also drop as most my time is spent cutting and prepping materials for the orders.

Sorry guys, the fenders are too costly to produce at a price that will sell. If we come up with a design that is cheaper or at least a little quicker to manufacture I could see them going into production.

what abput a DIY kit, where the buyer could weld up all the prefabbed pieces?

WebDog

That is a possibility, and i will put it on my list.

I plan to revisit this and a few other products as soon as I get into a shop (soon).

People wanting something like this can do it with just a little help and some resources. Here is what we did on mine. No fab experience before this and I think they came out pretty nice. Here is a link to my build thread. http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1069132&highlight=tube+fender
