So I think me and Xjcase are going to run spring creek Oct 9th if anyone wants to join is. It will be the first trail I try with my new lift and set up so I wanted to do something a little harder and that I havent done before. Not sure on time or anything yet. But just wanted to see who would be interested in joing us.

ha, we could all meet up for breakfast in dumont then part ways - perhaps smoke signals for lunch across the valley?

I'm up to run anything on the i-70 corridor really - would prefer spring creek like obstacles though

Someone should convince jeepfreak that spring creek > red elephant...

That would be for a long day of running. Red Elephant is the alternative to get to Mill Creek and you do not go down red elephant, too steep and not enough areas to pass...............

once you finish Red Elephant then you have to go down Bill Moore lake through empire to get out. Adding those two to the list would make it a very long day. When you finish Spring creek you can take a right and head down Saxon Rd. or a left and go down the confusing network of trails such as cascade creek etc.

xjcase
October 4th, 2010, 20:37
I know this, but he was considering running Elephant instead of Spring Creek - Spring creek oughta be more fun for him and I think he could get through most everything up there especially with all his brand new brown santa parts

YELLAHEEP
October 4th, 2010, 21:53
Personally, I'd rather just turn around at the top of Spring Creek and run it back down. Saxon Rd is retarded, and I have yet to make it down the other ways without spending an extra hour trying to get un-lost........

jeepfreak1020
October 4th, 2010, 22:19
I think the spring creek trip may not go down. Im not feeling beating on my rig yet that hard. With me just putting my new lift on I kinda want to do a little of a shake down easy run before that. So I think that me and xjcase and hurley are going to run red elephant on Sunday the 10 instead

I'll just be happy if I can get my rig running. If that happens, I'll hit whatever trail is being run......... but I've done Red Elephant and Bill Moore enough. Can't get enough of Spring Creek.

I keep having to Reiterate the fact that some of us enjoy the scenery of the back country, and not just the wheeling aspect of it. Red Elephant gives a stock to mildly built rig, a small challenge, and has some cool stuff to see along the way. I still haven't been to Bill Moore lake, so I want to check it out. I can't speak for anybody else's reason for doing Red Elephant, but I like the Idea of having another rig or two come along.

Yeah, I saw your photos awhile back, very nice

Just seems like the majority of the folks around here are mainly interested in 7+ rated trails, where some of us like to wheel other stuff. Just a friendly reminder. Also, depending on what day you go, Red Elephant can be a pain. I've seen guys on 35's locked f/r have a hard time. As steep as it is, when its really dry it can be slick as snot.

Either way, whatever run folks choose, should be a great time.

lol well dam you got pics of it??

And im trying but school and work take pretty much all my time away from the jeep.
Things deff dident go right with my jeep lately, both rear shock mounts on the axle broke, so had to fix that, both bolts on the pass side crossmember broke inside the frame. Then my driver side caliper desides to take a crap on me, so now I have to replace both of those now to.

Well, the normal exit would be in dumont off of i-70 however the bridge to cross the creek is still out so to get to the trail you have to take the exit off of i70 for US 40 towards winter park and then backtrack a couple miles

the atv tour place is right next to it so shoot for this:

YELLAHEEP
October 6th, 2010, 22:29
hey shouldnt you be fixin that BOR rig so we can wheel sunday?

If I had an effing clue where to start with it's problem, I'd be out there right now....... But having swapped out the entire throttle body with one from a good running rig, swapping the ECU with one from a good running rig, fresh battery in it......... there's no explaination for it's issues:

-Won't start easily. Requires alot of cranking with the gas pedal floored. When it starts, it belches black smoke and runs like ass, dies when you let your foot off.
-Will rough idle at barely above 650 RPM after about 2-3 minutes of keeping the foot on the gas, but the minute you put it into gear, or try to push on the gas pedal again, it immediately dies.
-NONE of the dash gauges work. Odometer, other warning lights work, but gauges are dead.
-Tail pipe and the lower area of the bumper where the exhaust tip is are soot-black.

I am uber-stumped and it's gonna piss me off when I do finally figure out what it's problem was........ probably something fawkin' simple.

I've just NEVER come across a rig that runs this badly - barely at all - and doesn't set a single OBD code.

Someone else got me wondering if it isn't the alarm system (has auto start feature) fawkin' with the signals/circuits or something. It's wired into damn near everything.

Might have to kill it with fire.........

YELLAHEEP

that whats holding the BOR rig down?

I'm hoping so. Finally got it to store a code - P1694 and the reading I've done on it says it's likely the TCM. It has all the right symptoms and I've replaced everything else.

My buddy Terry actually has a '97 parts rig and I'm going to go snag the TCM from it in the morning..........

Wish me luck.

Kiefer316
October 8th, 2010, 15:56
Yella I'm goin to the yard tomorrow to search around. Ill keep my eyes peeled. Don't think there are any 97's at CAP. But might be going to upap too.

YELLAHEEP
October 8th, 2010, 23:28
Well, I found a TCM at a bone yard earlier today and............

That didn't fix it.

Fawkin hell.

Short of having used all brand new parts as replacements in diagnosing/repairing these problems........ Every stinking sensor/computer has been swapped out to no avail.

Aparently there must be a few components that are fairly exclusive to the '97 model year.

I had put a '98 ECU in place of the original one.... it made all the gauges unresponsive and it turned the A/C on when the dash switches were off. It was the '98 ECU that ended up with a set and readable code - P1694 and P0700. I replaced the TCU with another '97 TCU and no change. So that got me to thinking that the '98 ECU was not compatible with the '97 TCM. I removed the '98 ECU and replaced the original '97 ECU and the gauges work again and the A/C is back to normal....... but it still runs like shit just like it did before the TCU swap. To determine if there was a CCD Bus issue like the P1694 code says may be present, I even swapped out the gauge cluster with another - from a '98 with no change. So I'm guessing even the gauge clusters are not interchangeable. The CPS was swapped out for another confirmed working used one. No change.

I'm at a total fawkin loss on what to do now. Something is fawking with it's ability to hold an idle unless it's sitting at 1100 RPM. It runs like shit at any RPM below that but usually just dies. It's running rich as hell. I have to press the gas pedal to the floor in order to get it to start. Occasionally the IAC will open for no reason and the RPM's jump to 2000. When this happens, the fuel and temp gauges go flat.

I may just break out the ohm meter now and start the tedious process of testing all the gawdamn sensors just to rule out having replaced one bad TPS with another bad TPS and so on....... which should be pretty much impossible as the ENTIRE throttle body with sensors was removed from a running rig.........

:banghead:

Unless a miracle happens tomorrow......... I'll be at home for Sunday's run.
