It will work, involves some mods though, get the seat bases from the 97, the floor pan is different. There are some write ups about it here on the forum as well as putting ZJ seats in.

post-94 there was a piece of channel under the front legs so you need to weld something similar to make it work

Would it be possible to keep the 89 seat pedestals and modify the 97 seat frame to fit them?

Yes, it is possible... as thats what I did to put ZJ seats in my 94.
Basically had a friend weld up some angle iron to use as an adapter plate.

Can't you just unbolt the seats from the bases and swap them over?

If you look at them side by side, without some form of adapter, it won't work.

it has nothing to do with renix. renix is a engine control system that ended in 1990, the socalled 'renix' seat pans go all the way up to 95, iirc.

The mount's the same up through 94.
