problems going into four drive

i have recently bought a 1999 jeep 4l automatic i thought i would try some offroading in four wheel drive on slippery mud and grass when i came out of 4 wheel drive back on the road i noticed a grinding noise and getting wheel hop i tried reversing and tried doing a figure of 8 to get it back into 2wd it took some time but eventually did go back into 2wd ok. i was out last night driving in wet conditions and tried again in full time 4wd the same thing happened but took longer to get it back into 2wd with the same grinding noise and front and rear wheels locking up and hopping when i turn corners is this a transfer case problem? please help thankyou

Your t/c linkage might be out of adjustment. Go to this thread,http://www.naxja.org/forum/showpost.php?p=789792&postcount=6 he tells how to do an adjustment. Maybe a good idea to check the fluid while your under the rig to.
