I know this is not a Jeep tech item - BUT - I have a Jerry can I bought at a Yard Sale. Had a little rusty water in it which is now completely drained and dry. Is there anything I can do with it to make it a suitable container for gas.

Other than that, it's in great shape. Would sloshing some kerosene in there and letting it dry out make it gas safe? Or should I just trash it and buy a new can?? Seems a shame.

I went to the motorcycle to buy the kit for this..Came with a cleaner(acid) and the sealer for the tank..

I kind of liked "corrective action E" in the link. That method seems like it restores the base metal.

I'm moving this to paint and bodywork, as you'll probably get more help there than OEM tech.

check out eastwood.com they have a product to restore gas tanks.. that should work.

Check with a local radiator shop, a lot of them will do gas tank restorations.
