Anyone know if an alternator (from 92 xj 6cyl HO) will work on an 89 xj 6 cyl?

Also are there any differences in the HO versus the regular 6 cyl that would cause problems swapping motors. The one in the 89 is good, 92 needs work, so I am looking at putting the 89 motor into the 92

You may either need to call the parts store or look online to check part numbers. For the engine swap You will at the very least need to swap sensors, if not the intake/TB

The pre-HO engines are referred to as RENIX. The two generations have completely different engine management architectures. For example the RENIX alternator uses the GM internally regulated design while the HO alternator uses the Nippon-Denso that is regulated by the ECM. There is lots of material out there about using an HO engine with the RENIX era harness if you google for it you'll find it.
