Steering issue

NAXJA Forum User
OK so.... when i steer left or right at abut 11 o'clock or 1 o' clock i seem to get a dead spot in the steering, at those positions the wheel will just suddenly turn about another 20 degrees and will not effect the turning of the jeep. Its been happening for awhile, not sure why, checked several times and everything seems tight :dunno::helpme:

Check for side play in the pitman shaft of the steering box. This will show up as lost motion when you start to turn the wheel, even if the box is adjusted well, and has no play on center. Have someone get in and move the wheel back and forth, and you may see it. Also check for loosenes in either of the joints in the steering shaft. There's a cushioned "rag joint," (not really a true rag joint but it passes as such) that can deteriorate at the top, and conventional U-joint at the bottom that can wear out. Make sure everything there is tight.
