2000 xj sport rear axle spline count

i have a d35 and i am buying a 8.25 what spline count should the 8.25 be?

Aim for a 29 spline, they are way stronger. If you pull one out of a 97 or later XJ it will definitely be 29 spline, a 96 can be either 27 or 29, a 95 or earlier will be 27 spline.

k sweet so it doestnt matter what the spline count is other than one is stronger than the other? im picking up a 8.25 with 3.73 gearing and trussed for 200 bucks complete drum to drum

Nope. In fact, you can swap shafts, spider gears, and perhaps the carrier (I forget if it needs to be swapped, probably does since the holes for the shafts will need to be larger) from a 29 spline into a 27 spline housing IIRC.

Yes,the carrier has to be replaced also!
