Gearbox Problem? Can Anybody Help

I have just purchased a 1996 Grand Cherokee 4.0L with fulltime 4 wheel drive.
I think its a ZJ model but not sure.
This is the first Jeep I have purchase so totally green in all areas.
The problem I have is this:
Pulling away in first gear is ok then shifts into second gear for couple of seconds then quickly goes sounds like it goes back into first gear for a split second ( High Rev's ) then seems to shift into third gear??

The Motor I was told had a service a couple of thousand miles ago. I have checked the oil level and this is correct.

If anyone has any info that would be great

You really should try another Jeep forum website. Our XJ's don't even use the same transmission as your's does.

Sorry I did'nt realise it was just for XJ owners only and maybe there might be someone on the site who has either owned, worked on a Cherokee. While searching some of the threads on this forum some signatures showed owners with more than on Jeep including my version. I will do as you suggested but finding it hard to find any help ( new to this forum lark ).
