***Final Oktoberfest Update***
Okay folks, here we go:
Originally, this was going to be a purely Sunday event, but the response has been such that a lot of people are going to be showing up Saturday to wheel and camp that night.
I'll be getting there in the early afternoon on Saturday and trying to nail down a main camp site. A lot of people have expressed interest in running some of the trails Saturday, so I'll be leading a newbie/anyone who wants to group, leaving from the campground at 3:00 pm Saturday. We'll probably do 311 and then maybe 520.
Weather.com is saying Saturday will be nice (mostly sunny and 56°) but will get cold over night and begin to rain. Evan's Creek is a couple thousand feet higher than Carbonado and they're saying it will be as low as 36° over night in the town. We may get snow. Be prepared for the cold!
Dinner Saturday will be fending for yourself; nothing official provided, so make sure to bring grub and a way to fix it. Ditto Sunday morning. We'll be meeting the rest of the group at the trail head at 9:00 am Sunday, so be ready to roll.
Here's who's coming:
Me (Matt)-Both Days
T&A XJ (Tim)-?
2Xtreme (Michael)-Sunday
Marc (Michael's Brother) -Sunday
Avanteone (John, w/ family)-Both
12GAXJ (Eli)-Both
XJourney (Hans)-Sunday
Slacker87XJ (Ian)- Both
PatHatten (Pat)- ?
Comanchekid (Jason)- Sunday
Megawatt (Jeremy)- Both
Blkxjkrawler (Ryan)- Sunday
Mud1059 (Paul...and Josh )- Both?
Adamusmc2002 (Adam)- Both
GreenBeltXJ (Cody)- If he's got a motor...?
Jay2000XJ (Jay)- Both
SuperSami (Mark...my Samurai buddy)- Both
There will also be a few PNW Jeep guys there who may or may not wheel with us. Depending on who actually shows, we might break up into two groups. We'll play that by ear.
If anyone has questions about directions, post up, because I think everyone pretty much knows where it is. If I've missed anything or anybody, let me know.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing you guys in a few days!

Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris created much! Chuck Norris is from Texas (come on, he is part of the Texas Rangers, everyone knows that:) )
Ryan,
if you guys are meeting between 6 and 6:15 then you should be in Marysville by 6:45. I will move up my schedule to meet you guys at 6:45ish at 4th Street exit in Marysville (Hans has the details, exit 4th street, turn right, we will be on the opposite side of the street, my jeep will be on a trailer).
Looking forward to a wet/muddy/low traction day!!

Oops, I lied. I can't get to a tire machine in time for the weekend. The slide hammer/bead buster I have will bust them off, but the side walls are so damn stiff, the pry bars I have wont get them over the rim. Plus they are on aluminum wheels, and dont want to scratch them up. But, I did score 2 33x12.50 TSL Radials, but won't have 2 more by tomorrow either!

Matt, Thanks for organizing another great run!! (You still owe me money but you can wait till you pay off your second mortgage with what you must owe John:laugh3: )
I had a great time. And without a specific mechanical failure we actually probably could have run all of the trails on Sunday!! I guess this gives us a good reason to try again?
I ended up with NO body damage, NO mechanical issues, and LOTS of fun (meow)!!
I learned several things: Although I still believe that Lockers are over rated. I really need them in both ends to make the next step up in challenging obstacles. I also learned that I can use my winch in aiding my own recovery instead of others:).
Thanks to everyone for a wonderful trip. It was great to meet several others who I had not met before.

Loads of fun guys! Wish I'd been able to go on that last run, but the kids were tired and I didn't wanna be hauling that trailer out in the snow and dark.
Got to see a side of Matt I hadn't before. (Note to self, hide all frying pans when Matt is drinking) :D
And I'd have been under anybodys rig helping them if if came down to it, the fact that I have Matt's credit card # memorized has nothing to do with it. Is it a bad sign when I am carrying spare parts that don't even fit my rig? hahaha I had all that stuff in my truck box left from our Moab trip... renix alternator, HO alternator, p/s pumps, injecors, etc. hahaha

Had fun with you guys. There were so many rigs that when Matt spent 20 minutes swapping batteries the bottom half of the convoy didn't bother hiking all the way up to BS/mingle. That was a lot of trucks!
Note: I ran 1 trail on Sat night and lost a CJ's gas tank and a Yota supercharger. 5 trails sunday morning with what? 10 XJs and a MJ and we lost an alternator, a couple tail lights and a U joint. Came back to camp and got ANOTHER CJ to hit one trail and lost a steering box off the frame. (spent 4 hours on the trail to baby it off) Worst part...it was RIGHT at one of the memorials for one of the 2 people that have died up there. Then my trailer queen had to be driven home. Made for a helluva day...especially in shorts. (yes, I'm dumb) Good to meet a bunch of you guys, had a blast. Sorry I didn't take pics.

I don't think I've ever heard of an Evans trip that didn't involve a rescue mission. Last two times I've been there, we helped rescue some unfortunate souls.
As for the snow run. The Timber Tamers do it the Night before the big Moonshiners swap meet in Puyallup. After we get our booth set up, we head for the trail. Every year it's a blast. We usually start at about 9PM and don't get off the trail until well into the morning. Then we get about an hour of sleep and head for the swap meet.

Come to think of it, after everyone went there seperate ways we passed up a group headed up 198. They were half way up the trail when we met them. They're rigs consisted of: (this is no joke) 2006 Landcruiser, 2007 Tundra, 93 Toyota x-cab and another brand new vehicle I forget the make/model (powerwagon maybe?). All stock and all never been there before. I'll give em props, they'd made it quite a ways. yikes

Those guys flagged me down in the staging area on my way out. The guy in the red extended cab had gone through the puddle at the bottom of 197 and ingested some water and they didn't have any tools with them. They had flat towed it down to the staging area. I pulled the plugs and bumped the starter a couple of times. It shot water up and OVER my trailer once for each cylinder. We got all the water out, got it started, and pumped about another 2 gallons of water out of the exhaust. It ran good enough for him to get it home, but I'm pretty sure he hurt the motor... had a nice little knock/rattle to it after that.
The FJ the one guy was in was pretty sweet, little lift, 33's, nice rockers, he said he ran all of 311 in it, even had a couple minor battle scars.

PS. On the note of stock vehicles we saw a older bronco II up on 519 with a driver that looked totally stoned and must have just got out of the state pen!! He was haulling A$$ down the trail and left signs along the way in several spots of almost coming completely off the trail and rolling down the embankment. Then at the bottom he was trying to show us how stock street tires compare with lifts, TAD's, MT's, etc.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/EvansCreek054.jpg
Hans was next, but we noticed his front axle was not engaged when he tried to climb up some smaller steps at the bottom of the obstacle. He decided to back down the trail because it would have been a major pain to strap him through. Eli went next and cruised right up it. Even cleaner than Matt's run. He made it look so easy that I didn't pay any attention to his line. I picked a bad one. I slid sideways on the slick rocks and got wedged in from behind. Couldn't go backwards and no traction to go forward. Time to pull cable. Michael is helping with the winch in this picture, and it starting to get dark and snow harder. Did I mention that it was freaking cold up there?
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/EvansCreek067.jpg
Matt took this picture of snow piling up on my seat, but its cool because he was standing on my back tire to show how steep the angle on the rock really was.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/EvansCreek062.jpg
Thanks to everybody who helped with getting me unstuck. It went smoothly , except for my incredibly slow winch.

We headed down to the trail intersection, and by now the snow was starting to pile up. It was awesome. This is the same spot we watched some clueless a$$hat try to role his stock Bronco II in front of us.

I really liked that obstacle on 519. But I think the biggest reason for me was because it was new to me. I was also first in line and being unlocked up front it made it extremely challenging. I honestly believe that we (those of us who go back several times) will find that it really is not all that challenging once we have seen a few rigs go through it. Eli proved that it can be done on 31's locked front and back with NO issues at all. I would suspect that given another time or two it really will not be that challenging unless you try several other lines (like any obstacle you can make it much more difficult than it has to be by trying other lines).
I have recently found several obstacles that I could not quite make (like the on on 519, I suspect that left side of 311, the little rubicon at TSF) and I kind of wish I would leave the front unlocked to try them all again. But I will probably have it locked here before the next trip so I won't be able to test them again.
I might be completely wrong, but I would guess that next time we are there as a group, many of us will have no significant issues getting through it.
I do, still really like the first trail we did 197? (don't have the map in front of me) I think it is the most challenging just trying not to get any body damage!!

I totally agree. I'll probably get right through it next time. I don't feel bad at all that I had to winch and Eli got right through it on 31's, that's what keeps wheeling interesting.

Thanks, Chuck Norris, just knocked on my door, trick or treating, in a cub scout costume, and when I turned my back to grap some candy, he lept up, and gave me a roundhouse kick in the back of my head.
