Hotels in Attica:

Hotel Attica - (765)762-3088
Memories Inn B&B - (765)762-6574
Eagles Nest B&B - (765)762-3343

Hotels in Lafayette (~35 min from Attica):

Holiday Inn - (800)420-1522
Red Roof Inn - (765)448-4671
Signature Inn - (765)447-4142
Comfort Inn - (765)448-6105

Hotels in Crawfordsville (~35 min from Attica):

Holiday Inn - (800)465-4329
Days Inn - (765)362-0300
Super 8 - (765)361-8800

Camping:

Attica Family CG - (765)762-6189
Summers CG isn't open early enough for WF.

If you are staying in a hotel, I recommend booking NOW. With the closing of the Attica Inn, hotel rooms in town will be at a premium for the weekend of WF.

If you are camping, the Attica Family CG offers both electric and primitive sites. We traditionally set up the campfire/common area around the electric sites. Again, if you need an electric site it is best to reserve early. Last year there was no problem, but each year is different.

I'll probably be in this if my buddy comes along. If not, probably sleeping in the truck or Travis' RV if there's room.

I like the look of this fire. Is gasoline allowed? I've found that the easiest way to get a good fire going in 5 minutes flat is to stack the wood teepee style, then log cabin style over that, pour about half a gallon of gas on it, and throw matches.

100 yards.

Rates are $7/person/night for primitive, $20/night for electric (4 persons), $25 for water/electric and $30 for full hookup.

Advice for the Newbs on what I learned on camping at Attica. Even though I am still a newb (sophmore) lol.

Bring a tent that doesnt mind WIND!

A bale of hay on the ground first makes things nice once the Rain pours down. Or if it is COLD.

Walmart tents are NOT water proof bring a tarp with ya!

most 8 footers will work in a 6.5 bed...only problem is the 1.5 over hang and how your trailer fits with that. i could get away with the 8ft with the single place, but not with my 2 place...and definately not with my buddy's 30 ft enclosed that i tow for XRRA.

i like the hillbilly haulers and would love to come up with something, however, i still need the option of pulling 2 jeeps as well and I don't want to load/unload a truck camper on a trailer all the time...

I'm driving approximately 750 miles each way. My rationale is this:
1) I really like road trips
2) my grandmother lives near Cleveland and her house will be a good stopping point halfway (I'll drive two days each way)
3) I have a bunch of paid vacation I don't know what to do with
4) I like wheeling a lot
5) I like wheeling with lots of other XJs even more
6) I've always had a good time meeting other NAXJA members
7) I've been wanting to make it to Winterfest for two or three years now
8) I finally have a Jeep that I'm confident will make the trip
9) I've heard that early springtime in the Midwest is just magical

That'd okay; I sill have eight reasons to come.

Seriously, though, how is the weather at winterfest? Or rather, what's it been like in past years? Shorts and a t-shirt, or should I bring the Carhartt winter suit?

last year was sunny and warm, upper 50's.
I've seen years where we've had breakage due to the cold.
shorts..not likely. Carharrts for sure.

I found an 86 Starcraft pop up pick-up camper for a short box on c/l over by me, $750. says excellent cond, with Christmas comming up I don't know if I dare. Although, I might.

be careful with the older ones. they were made with with junk wood that always rots. we pretty much redid the last one we had (88 Starcraft) because it was so shot.

It is Indiana! The weather changes dramatically at the drop of a hat. Bring your swimsuit and your snow boots to be safe...

I'm looking for one very similar to this...tho I'm hoping to find a mid-90s with a working furnace...

tho I replaced the a/c unit in my house this year and hoping to replace my furnace at my house before the end of the year, i hope i get all the holidays at work and maybe a truck camper will happen...otherwise its a tent...with heaters...the back of the truck is just too close of quarters for two people...

9) I've heard that early springtime in the Midwest is just magical would you mind picking something, or better yet someone up from cleveland for me?

I dunno, that looks shortbed to me. I'd be glad to haul it back for you, it's only 30 minutes from where I'm getting the truck.

No family attending with me. Possibly a buddy, not sure yet. As far as campers go, we fill up our 12' box popup pretty well. I don't want to try and cram everyone in a 8' box. Plus, I don't think the wife would go for the camo.

This is the first year I'm camping for WF. I need a site that can handle 2 or 3 small electric heaters (I'll have JEEPS and a friend along too). I see they have 'em but I can't get anyone to call back about a reservation or whatever.

How do you regular WF camping types do it? Just show up and claim squatter's rights? I plan on being there Friday, maybe even thursday. Left a couple of voice messages at the number on their web site but no return call.

we are usually the only ones at the campground...last year due to the better than average temps there was at least one other group...but i wouldn't worry about making reservations...there is probably no one there to answer the phone til at least mid feb...they don't even open til the weekend of winterfest...

the electric on the campsite is more than ample to keep a couple of heaters going...
