Stock 99 cherokee transmission?

I was wondering if a 1999 cherokee 2wd and a 1999 cherokee 4wd have the same transmissions.. cause i have a transfer case im just wondering if the transfer case will bolt up to my transmisson on my 2wd so i can convert to 4wd.

I've often wondered this myself because I have a 98 2wd....I believe you need the tranny from a 4wd so that it has the proper length and output shafts for the transfer case....I could be wrong on this and I'm sure someone will chime in.

You need the tail end of a 4wd AW4 to attach a transfer case. You can convert the 2wd AW4 to a 4wd AW4, but it makes more sense to get an 4wd AW4 and just sell the 2wd or keep it for spare parts.
