quick question-fuel filters

so my engine was running well, except a small stutter. i switched out the stock fuel filter for one of those 3 dollar ones at walmart, the small clear FRAM ones. now, car has a real hard time getting up to 40mph. could that tiny fuel filter be getting enough gas to the engine, or would that be the problem?

Are those little clear universal filters even rated for fuel injected engines? I thought they were only for carbs.

i did not know that. package said nothing on it whatsoever. connections were the same size so i thought it would work. i'm assuming a carb pulls alot less than a FI?

Yep, fuel injection systems are much higher pressure than carbs. I think carbs are only like 10 psi and will even run with a gravity feed and no fuel pump. Replace the fuel filter with a XJ one. It's not an expensive part.
