I have a 93 XJ, 4x4, 4.0L, auto (aw4) and 231 t-case. I came across an aw4 with 21 splines, but I remember from swapping my t-case that my tranny output is 23 splines... How is this? I thought that all the autos were 23, and the standards were 21. Is this something that's fairly easy to change, or should I look for a 23 spline?

How can I make sure as to which spline count I need without pulling the t-case?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Splines depend on the type of transfer case behind the Transmission. NP231 & NP242 have 23 and 21 splines, and this depends on the year. This is all from memory, so if I'm off a little sorry. Juice

The older 4.0 XJ's had 21 spline outputs while in 90 or 91 they changed to a 23 spline.

Is there any advantage to one over the other (spline count?)
