breaks in the insulation of rear hatch harness

i can get pictures later but here's my problem, the harness that goes from the top of the ceiling to the hatch has a few wires with the insulation cracked on them, now i could always get some black tape and start taping each individual one until i feel their all fixed or buy a new one, and because its cracked i would think the wire itself is becoming brittle, is the harness plugged in on both sides and i can just replace that section?

That harness has about 4 connections behind the plastic panel by the drivers tail light. It then runs up and through the fixed rubber grommet into the hatch and then comes out inside the hatch and plugs into everything. Best bet for that harness would be a JY or if anyone around here has taken off a hatch and doesn't need it anymore.

JY will be unlikely cuz i own a 2000 so i'll need the newer body style wiring.

The wiring is impossible to reinstall in the natural way. Maybe you could use some of that spray-on insulation
