NP231 allowable slop?

how much play should there be in the front output shaft of the 231? i just rebuilt the thing with all new bearings and seals, and there is slight play up and down, as well as in and out. i didnt know if they are all like that, or just mine. i rebuilt it because of this play and i still have it.

End play is common if it just a little.As for up/down you shouldnt have any movement.Did you replace both bearings?How was the shaft?

As mentioned, a little bit of axial play is normal but radial play is not.

yeah i did replace both bearings, the shaft really looked good, quite honestly i didnt find that any of the bearings or rolling surfaces were very worn at all. well i'm stumped then... unless i put something together wrong, which would be kinda hard, its not like it was all that complicated. at any rate, thanks for the input guys
