New bulbs and can not find a faulty fuses but third brake light not working on 2000 xj. Both side brake lights and trailer connections all good. I replaced the brake switch (on peddle) a while back, but not sure it was related to the third light failing. Ideas? Wires near lamp seem OK

Check out the bulb socket closely. Is it stuck down, or does the base move up and down easily? Check into the socket for 12V and ground.

pull the panel and check voltage at the connector
probably a crack in the wire at the hatch wiring loom

My 99 has the same problem, the third brake light doesn't work and neither does the rear window defrost. I can see visable damage to the wire harness.
