Sun spot (in)activity

One of the more esoteric fields I follow the news on is solar activity. While we're not sure just how much of the year by year, decade by decade climate oscillation is driven by solar activity, global temperature and climate do seem to line up with solar activity - sun spots.

So there's this:

There's been talk over the last half decade or so that the sun might be going into a quiet period. If so it may have implications on worldwide climate that make the whole "carbon footprint" thing(if that's accurate) seem like a minor hiccup.

Anybody else follow this?

This is interesting. Charts of solar activity I've seen show a somewhat steady rise up to about 1980. Since then there has been a general decline in solar activity. You are right...we may need all the heat absorbing gases in our atmosphere that we can get, at least until sun activity inexplicably starts increasing again.

One of these times one of those reversals might conceivably be strong enough to wreak havoc with our hard drives.
Wait,.. so you're saying that the porn might not be safe?!!
