Barack Obama lays plans to deaden expectation after election victory

LOL....you think that was a Palin idea? Alaska has been doing that for years. Your ignorance shines brightly again "my friend".

and you missed the point of the post, but that's OK. Read post #24 of this thread. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=971981&page=2

That $1,200 (and it varies) has been going on for years, and it's a dividend from the The Alaska Permanent Fund. A fund set up based on royalties from the sale of natural resources. The fund has grown to in excess of $35B since its inception and is managed by a corporation, not the state. The corporation does manage all the investments of the State of Alaska. The fund is for the benefit of current and future geneartions of Alaskans and is not just about the dividend, but some really nice civic infrastructure and other community based projects.

I really don't see how I'm missing the point of his post - he's calling Alaska's oil royalty program socialist and making it sound like it was a Palin idea....?

:dunno:

good, keep cutting, the government only has like 3 responsibilities as listed in the constitution. AMTRAC, Welfare, the FCC, public radio, ect the list goes on are not them.

I generally agree that the fed is too big and too far out of line with it's constitutional responsibilities.

The FCC is necessary in some form. Radio waves go around the world and if we left it up to each state to make the law concerning broadcasting it would be anarchy on the air. Perhaps it could be privatized but then it would really have any teeth to go after offenders. I would favor an amendment to specifically authorize the FCC.

NPR isn't run or owned or even funded really by the the gummint. 2% of their funding comes from federal grants. Still, it could all be run at the state level without any issues.

So let me understand, palin is giving everyone in alaska $1200 a year which comes from rich oil companies(state profit). Does that not sound like taking money from the rich and re-distributing how she sees fit?
:attom:

You are right/perceptive, it would be exactly the same thing
The difference is that the extra money was not from increased taxes,
The $1,200 "energy rebate" was added to the PFD due to increased oil prices.

Also, just a pet peeve, I wouldn't call it a "handout", the cost of living in AK is considerably higher than in the lower 48
