94K-mile 1999 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 4.0L/AW4/NP231 (Cedar Springs, Michigan)

I have a very good-running 1999 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) with only 94K miles. It was mechanic-owned and daily-driven until it was broadsided on the passenger side. The vehicle is stripped down and on jack stands, but still runs in its current state. I start it every 1-2 weeks to keep it running regularly. Worth noting...

  • Equipped with the good 0630 cylinder head (vs. bad 0331 head)
  • Distributor-equipped 4.0L (not coil packs)
  • New spark plugs
  • Mobil-1 10W-30 synthetic oil
  • Compression tested; good compression in all cylinders
  • NEW Napa alternator

I planned on using the engine, transmission & transfer case in my Jeep FC170 Patina Rod project, but decided to go with a more powerful driveline, given the weight of the vehicle (based on a 2008 F350 Cab & Chassis frame).


Package deal for $1000, including all accessories (MINUS power steering pump, which I need for my daughter's XJ), wiring, computers, shifters/linkages, etc. I prefer not to separate the engine/transmission/transfer case, but will do so if the offer is good enough. I'll knock another $50 off if I keep the alternator.

I prefer cash, but will consider trades for:

  • Complete Cummins B3.3T or 4BT (no junk). I do realize that my Cherokee would be a partial trade toward this.
  • A single steel 2005-current Ford F350 dually wheel (8 x 200mm bolt pattern) & tire. One of mine for my project is fairly crusty.
  • 2005-current Ford F350 Dana 60 front unit bearings

Engine is SOLD.

Transmission, transfer case, (new-looking) radiator, and a ton of little parts from this low-mileage XJ are still available. If the trans/t-case doesn't sell, I'll put them on the shelf for a future 4WD conversion.
