1997 Jeep xj she’s got issues

1997 xj Cherokee 4.0 inline 6 automatic transmission it seems to sputter when at about 2600-2800 rpms while driving most notably around 45 mph . idols rough kinda surging and rough in a way where it shakes a little bit. when it sputters while driving it’s like rapid backfire almost ppppppppp kinda like that And the rpms jump up and down a little sometimes more erratic. iv replaces cam sensor and plugs and wires and cleaned the injectors and the air intake is good but can’t figure it out there was a cam crank code and a p.0700 code on it that was transmission but I really don’t know where to go from here any help or advice on diagnosis or possible causes is appreciated .
