Bringing this back from the dead to say this: THANK YOU SO DAMN MUCH for posting your solution. I looked high and low for this info and couldn't find anyone having the "squeegee" noise from their True Trac. You nailed it. I'll be switching diff lube tonight!!
WHEW!!
You could simply answer it but instead you're going to the extra effort to be patronizing. Sigh.
I already explained the bearing thing and why I didn't use a setup bearing! I gave it a shot.
Backlash is well within spec at .007.
Just forget it. I know what I'm doing, I was just making...
It's an 8.25. I figured the bearing caps were a dead giveaway.
Parts store was out of bearings to make a tester so I thought I'd give it a shot with factory shims.
Was wondering about how much shim yo remove, I dont do this every day. .005?

I dont wanna do this 3 times. I think the pinion is too deep.

I'm having a bunch of brand-new NP242 shift instruction decals (that go above the sun visor) made.
Anybody interested? I'm not a vendor, just doing a couple for me and my kid since we were doing 242 conversions, but figured it's like 10 bucks more to have the sticker company make a bunch more...
It's still for sale, but the owner is probably bummed out. Nobody gets their $ back on a restomod. Restoration to factory stock with almost no miles...still almost never.
Really, really really nice Comanche though. Holy shit.
Looking for the select track (selec? trac? I can't remember) NP242 shift bezel from a 97-01. Must still have the yellow in the lettering, no fade-through in the bezel's white lines or lettering.
PM me!
A battery is the last thing I worry about when it comes to one vs the other. They're all the same thing, rebranded.
Red and yellow tops are overpriced crap.
Get what fits.

Post pictures of the rust.
To clarify, replacing floor pans is not a job for someone who doesn't know what tools are required. It requires metal fabrication skill and a very good working knowledge of welding. If you're not that person, this not a job to undertake yourself. You will make the...
Rear brakes, axle bearings and seals only to still have the rear brakes barely work.
I hate drum brakes so much.
