I was wondering if I was missing the point.....
I guess not, it dose apperar to be debatable it seems.
I've seen some sad axles being removed on YouTube!
Mine mostly had wet sand .
Going to run with the two 1/4" hole idea, too let out out any future water entry.
But will tap a thread into...
Hi guys, open to opinion on my front end.*
I've just pressed out my ball and uni joints.*
I removed the diff bung, and corked an air compressor pistol into it, and had a nice air flow coming out of the axel tube ( blocking one end at a time)*
This allowed me to use a correct sized wire...
Oh, thanx Tim,
So if my tacho and Speedo need a tap to get going sometimes...
And contacts look very clean.
Internal issue?
Or poor contact terminal?
Is there a diagram of connectors that show the grounding pins? In case they are poor?
There is the cluster check , keep finger on odometer when turning ignition on.
My contacts look great and clean. But I often have to tap the dash to get p
RPM and Speedo working..?? Illumination lights are spastic as wel
Thanx heaps guys. I got some spider joints delivered today, plus a pair of the better outer seal kits.
$220 au !
We call it jeep tax here!
Yes SBR Off road where very helpful.
Going to hold off for a week till I can afford the ball joint kit.
$340au...(terraflex) do it all in one hit.
Will...
Been bloody 20 years since I've fitted a set.
As there any issue with taking too the old uni and just cutting it twice just inside the yolk?
All care of course, but would it make it easier to press out ?
Thanks guys!
My rig has the 8.25 Chrysler.
Are the 4 uni joints all the same on the prop shafts front and back?
Did any jeeps come out standard with a double cardan on the rear that can be swapped into 97 XJ ?
Cheers guys!
With cross referencing jeep parts in oz, it seems there is like a copyright on them.
You just end up with dumb blank looks!
As if they don't get a hit their computers!
Painfull!
And I think eBay should force sellers to disclose country of Origin!
Sick of Chinese CRAP!
Have you had that pin checked at the ECU? Not the harness included, to exclude wiring issue?
All mine where crisp from fatigue!
I chased them all the way to the point they left the fire wall to the motor. Before this they where still supple from ECU/ pcm.
After trimming them at al, fire...
Hi, pick your brains please!
Got a 97 XJ, and soon to put new hubs in.
(No abs) standard D30.
So I think ... what the heck, axles are out. So I might as well put new "U" joints on the front axles.
Plus new upper and lower joints.
Make a day of it!
BUT... are the axel "U" joints the same...
Yeah, it's on an 8.25. It was a bit of test of patience dialing it all in correctly before with the LSD carrier. But swapped over to open with a Spartan.
I just couldn't see the big fuss over putting the ring gear back on exactly the same bolt line up to the carrier.
Don't forget, to replace the rubber absorption bushes. They don't like being fitted to tight. Leading to cracking at joints etc.
Lost faith in radiator flush chemicals available in OZ,
Almost drinkable!
Mate and I ended up draining the system that was gunned up with straight cheap cleaning...
I could be wrong......
But most electrolysis damage occurs through the cooling system.
Copper/brass/aluminium etc , hence why there is so many chemicals added to coolant.
Trivia...
Ever seen old steel pylons sticking up out the ocean, rusted off just at the tidal mark height.
The steel...
Cheers guys, yeah I was talking about re-fitting the same one.
I'm about to replace a carrier that I got the matching pinion for.
But I will leave the original pinion in and swap ring gears over to keep matched.
I'm a bit lost to the final answer/solution.
Here in OZ, we don't get the salt issue, re-guarding snow etc.
Best thing to do is stop rust.
A few ways to go about it..
One under valued way is to buy a zinc anode meant for marine applications!!
Usually fitted to outboard motors...
