    Engine Help.....with pics

engine looks fine to me. some carbon build up and some surface rust from not running for a while. the smeg is nothing compared to what was in my 89 when i pulled the valve cover. as for wear, you need to break the engine down, measure and check the tolerances. either swap the long block in and...

yes, you need to shim the rear axe so the pinion is 2 degrees below the angle of the double cardon driveshaft. when under load, the pinion will rotate up 2 degrees.

    Where did my oil go?

other then just being black from cleaning the engine(high detergent), black oil is also an indication that it is burnt. i would be surprised as i thought synthetics could handle more heat then conventional oils. maybe m1 has a low threshold for heat?:dunno:

    Revolver shackles

what is the shackle angle with the jeep at rest. if its straight up an down or only angled slightly to the rear, then you need to change the angle. if this is the case, i would think the revolver shackle would just unload on you.

    Revolver shackles

why do you need them? little more info about your suspension setup would help. i would look into shackle relocation brackets if you have shackle issues. someone in this thread has the shackle relocation brackets for sale, and its not me.

    Death wobble???

stock arms are not meant to be at that extreme angle. stock arms have been know to bend when at that angle. a good size pot hole could take one or more of those arms out. not to mention, there is no way caster is within spec with stock arms at that height. sorry but i find your set up to be a...

    skid plate suggestions

doesnt that theory apply to all skid plates??? granted that its a stock skid and not a heavier aftermarket skid. just like the stock gas tank skid, it can be modified to increase its strength. i searched many many yards for the stock gas, TC, and gas tank skid and was able to find them on...

    No start when Hot

put a heat shield around the coil and get the cps wiring as far away from the header as possible. i would pick up a couple of junk yard coils. cheap and carry one as a spare. i would also get a spare cps. you need to test both the coil and cps when the engine is hot and having the no start issue

    Where did my oil go?

only in an engine that has "dirt" in it. the 4.0 seems to be a bit more dirty then most engines. wifes matrix has 110,000 miles and the oil is a nice amber/yellow color. the oil build-up/sludge in my 89 was incredible. ive owned my 89 since 1990 and drove it for 10-12 years with just doing the...

    Will not start.

cts usually causes a rough start as it floods the engine with fuel. faulty magnetic pickup inj the distributor can also give poor running condition no start can be the cps(crank sensor). a cracked header can also foul things up as it will allow air to be pulled in through the exhaust valves...

    Not running right

if your not gettting any codes and the sensors spec out out, i would check the ground from the battery to the block and renew the ground strap from the head to the firewall. also clean the IAC, it could be getting hung up causing some idle issues. make sure the cat convertor is ok, but if its...

drilling the t-cast output shaft question

when you say not perfect, is the DS too long or too short? if too short, zj shaft is 1" longer if you get the right one. 87-95/96 handle vibs a bit better then 96/97 and up.

    Engine Left On....While Refueling?

and depending where you live, in the summer time the heat of just the black top/asphalt can be over 100 degrees which will lengthen the cooling time of the cat convertor/engine/underhood temps.
