    Aw4 Valve Body Check Balls

Morning guys, Problem solved. My idiot self put in the one way clutch in the OD drum/planet upside down so it was stopping the rotation of the gears when the clutches applied from 3 to overdrive. I had a spare trans and I pulled out the OD to see which way it locked and sure enough it was the...

    Aw4 question

Aw bummer sorry to hear that. Yeah that would be a good upgrade in the future you can get a spare just to get going again and then just maybe make a project out of it if you have time. The aw4 is not that hard to tear down it's really the putting everything back right. I'm not super organized...

    Aw4 Valve Body Check Balls

RCP was the drawing similar to this one provided by Transgo? Based on this drawing I had that last 9th ball where they indicate some vehicles don't have it. Anyway I disconnected the TCM and ran the manual shift patterns. 1-3 gears are beautifully crisp but when I get it to overdrive it still...

    Aw4 question

If you actually thrashed the output shaft then yes there is a snap ring that holds the shaft on the rear planetary gear and sprag. Once you get it off the shaft slides out. Better off getting a used aw4. I just rebuilt mine and if you mess something up like I did you won't have a overdrive...

    Aw4 Valve Body Check Balls

Hey lawsoncl, Thanks for checking some of your sources i appreciate it a lot. Interesting so it looks like I have an extra check ball apparently. I pulled 9 out so I put them back the same way. I think this kind of rules out my valve body as the problem. My gut is telling me maybe I...

    Aw4 Valve Body Check Balls

Good morning NAXJA community. I have done some extensive searches regarding this topic and I was seeing if someone could help me out with a picture or a diagram. I have thumbed through about 5 and cannot find my configuration. I got a 2000 jeep xj with about 350k on the clock. I have rebuilt...

    Jeep Transmission Items For Sale

Greetings everyone, I got some extra parts from a job I did on my xj left over that I don't need. - 2 OEM flexplates (my old one and from a donor Aw4 I have in the garage) - 1 Rebuilt Torque converter from said Aw4 Both flexplates appear to have no cracks and my original has some starter gear...

Question about shift linkage & Shaft

Thanks for the help! I saw the IPT a340e video and they show the internal linkage replacement but for some reason everyone unbolts the shifter arm on the outside, go figure. Anyway the service manual shows how the innards go but I needed to make sure I got the outside lined up right too...

Question about shift linkage & Shaft

Hi guys, I have looked at countless images and I cannot for the life of me figure out if the shift lever position under the jeep xj with an Aw4. Is the transmission shifter mechanism on the side supposed to be facing toward the back of the trans in park??! I rebuilt the tranny and I am in the...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

One year and some change in the making rebuilt everything inside the slushbox. When working in the valve body, 3-4 shift valve cap was broken and spring was not in spec. It was binding during the down shift on OD back into 3rd. Next time, start with the easy stuff first saves you a lot of time...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

Update: I was able to grind down the input transmission sensor flange a bit, sanded down the mounting surface on the side of the tranny, and I also closed the connectors a bit on the TCU plug since they were a little widened. Right away I noticed an increase in the induced voltage as the...

Lawsoncl, Ha! spot on! Sadly now I can really feel this Jeep is just laughing at my vain attempts to fix it :)

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

Thanks Kastein! I would consider myself a little more adept in the mechanical side of things but this long venture of chasing gremlins have definately opened my mind to the realm of electronics. This is quite and interesting piece of info/history I appreciate that a lot. Back in the school...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

Sorry for the double post back to back but I was able to find this over the weekend doing a different type of search related to shift solenoid DTCs. From this, 4th gear will not have an ISS signal when moving in 4th or if it is in gear at a complete stop.

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

Hmmm good points. That could very likely be the culprit. I have never seen an electrical problem so abstract like this. I am going to try and get my hands on a good scanner and see if I can monitor the solenoid during the lock up phase as well as the input signal. Worst case I can hit the JY...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

True but I think the TCM has to send the output signal to the PCM and the PCM could potentially be misinterpreting the data stream. Well at least that's my logic. Might just run a 2 wire jumper to bypass the wire to the TCM from underneath... Maybe my sensor wires are backwards? I believe...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

tried using the method and I was getting an input signal due to the shaft rotating when I had the xfer case in N. Still no signal in 4th/OD. Can anyone confirm this? I disconnected the TCM and all the shifts points are good with no slipping or popping out of gear to a higher gear. Might be...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

Good idea I will go ahead and disconnect the TCM and see if I can get a voltage reading directly from the sensor. Maybe I'll hook up an O-scope to it to see the waveform. That would be crazy if 2 TCM's in a row were bad and needed to be replaced. I haven't tried this yet so I will for sure...

    P0715 Diagnosis Input

lawsoncl, That is the read out when I put the volt meter in the connector on the input pins. The sensor is still connected at this time and I am driving the car around. I have voltage as I increase speed when the shifter is in 2 & 3. As soon as it is in D/4, there is a signal up until the...
