That's what it was y'all! Had the distributor set at TDC on the exhaust stroke on #1, turned the motor over till I felt air pushing my finger out in the #1 cylinder to TDC and re-indexed the distributor and it fired right up! Thanks for the help from everyone!
Well the distributor plug in is facing the passenger fender well and every picture I've looked at shows that that's correct, unless I'm missing something?
I bought a 1990 XJ with a bad 4.0 motor (fist sized hole in the block) and found a good used one from a 98 Cherokee, I put all the renix accessories on the H.O motor and got it installed in my Jeep. It has a new distributor and I'm pretty sure its indexed correctly, with the #1 cylinder at TDC...
I'm definitely going to pull the oil pump today or tomorrow and check everything out. I dont believe the pin is sheared? With the plugs out of the motor it should turn over fairly easily with a breaker bar and socket right? Cause it seems too hard to move.
