That's not the kit I used -- I modified a high CFM e-fan to fit in the stock shroud, kept the stock e-fan, and wired them to work in tandem thermostatically or by a switch on the dash.
1) Are you sure you have the correct clutch fan CFM data? Seems kinda' high...
2) I had sealed-off all of the...
Dude...
Just start gathering what you need to do the 4.10 swap with locker(s).
I did that on a 5-speed '93 on 31s that I drove all over the back roads of Arizona, southern California,
southern & eastern Nevada, Utah, and even northern Baja as far south as the observatory.
You will be very...
Dude...
Did you watch your mechanic?
Can you tell if the inspection plate has really been off recently?
Either way, it's an easy enough job to do... take a look for yourself... he might have missed it!
Use a big standard screwdriver in the teeth to rotate it. Check ALL of the bolts. Look...
I'm going to get one of these (from summit) and have it on hand for the next XJ project that comes along.
There's no such thing as too much cooling capacity running the southwest, and these are even potentially repairable on the trail.
Here's another vote for the knock being flex plate related.
The sound in your recording from underneath is what I base my opinion on.
Have you listened from underneath with someone else on the throttle yet?
Maybe it's because of the "middle-east equipment group"?
Some of the hard-core PHX area guys swear by this one from Summit Racing...

In some ways this one may even be the better way to go. I wouldn't...
Don't sweat this... get one and put it in. I've got one in my '99 and it fits/works great!

Be sure to use new u-bolts.
30" tires might rub on the lower control arms with stock rims.
If you were lifting your rig another 1.5" you could use JK take-off shocks.
They work well, are fairly plentiful, and can be had for cheap... sometimes even free.
I'm kidding, of course...
"Comic book logic" would likely dictate someone, perhaps Enid, distracting/drawing them off as he manages to squeeze his way underneath.
I think I'll quit now before I embarrass myself any further... :o
If he managed to get under there, I don't know how he did it without getting bit.
Maybe there's a storm drain under there or a hole in the bottom.
It's got to be something like that.
Sounds like you need to re-gear, too.
These guys are right about you not needing the ZJ fan clutch.
I just suggested it much like suggesting an insurance policy.
Let us know how that e-fan kit works out for ya'... :helpme:
Don't do the e-fans! How many times do WE have to tell you?? :nono: :twak: :D
The system I fabricated did the job really well but took a lot of fine-tuning to optimize and didn't leave much room clearance-wise.
Not worth all of the effort in the long run and not as dependable, IMO...
It's been in for a couple of years now and doing well.
The previous owner of my '99 had already installed it before I picked up the vehicle just about a year ago.
Adding a ZJ fan clutch was like icing the cake... :lickout:
You should see the dollar bill get pulled toward the condenser right...
