Thought it would do well to make a note that as of June 20,2013 She has been running flawlessly.
The crankshaft position sensor was the culprit.
Hats off to Dr MOAB for 'fingering' the culprit right off the bat!
THANKS
Mike. Remember it took almost three weeks to act up the last time. So, don't know how long it will take to rear it's ugly head if it isn't the CPS. Hope this does it and I don't have to play any more circuit detective!
As it may take time --if it isn't fixed with the CPS-- I will only post...
[Monday] Updated information. A local shop read out the 'check engine' status and obtained an error code of P-1694, a transmission error. After a little research I was informed that the code will be displayed if the PCM does not communicate with the TCM (transmission). Probably the error code...
Ecomike: Thanks for the feed back. I went through everything I could (with no wizard-ly electronic reader gizmos available). Checked all of the fuzes. Voltage and ohmeter check on the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Went back to the plug connector C200-C100, I believe it is called, at the fuel...
If it had an ignition spark I would agree. But along with having no fuel pressure OR ignition spark there is NO low-fuel warning light "on" when the switch is turned to the on position (as in the normal light test sequence). I'm thinking more of some sort of electrical malady?!
Would'nt, for...
Well, IT's BaAAAAACK!
For sixteen days the rig did not miss a lick. Did maybe 500 miles with 30-40 starts and absolutely no problems. Today, in the garage again, NO START. Fast cranking but no' fire in the hole'. Fuel at the Schrader valve was a dribble... and, no ignition.
It would seem...
Kastein; "BINGO" That deduction would in all probability be EXACTLY correct. 'Cause that is the way Detroit works.
Anyone entertaining a access port modification could probably purchase a cut-out from a wreck at a salvage yard to produce an 'exact' panel to fit the cutout. Fastening screws...
_MuddButt; It is a ‘98XJ
Dragonslayer; What you say is probably the correct answer. And, making such an alteration available commercially would surely draw fire from the first tort attorney that became aware of it. I was amazed how THIN the floor metal is on these rigs when I poked an...
When I was laying on a creeper staring up at the fuel tank <hoping> I didn't have to change the bloody fuel pump, I had to wonder what was in the head of the design engineers when they didn't put a panel in the floor of the rear space? From what I could make out the only reason why it was not...
In the back of my mind I recall an access sequence that allowed readings in the digital mileage window of a 98 XJ. It has been quite awhile ago and I flat forget?!? Maybe it was a Seville that I once had I am thinking of, or not?
Got on it this morning.
No fuel at the Shrader valve. Could not hear the fuel pump running with ignition switch ON. Smacked the tank a couple times with a rubber hammer, still didn't hear a pump noise, and STARTED it up. Apparently, the fuel pump had 'stuck' for some reason. Guess I am going...
Thanks guys.
It will be tomorrow before I tackle this/ hands-on.
The information looks great. Just what I was looking for. I will digest it tonight before I start checking things out.
In my case, there was NO maintenance/tinkering done. Just went out a couple days later and it was KAPOOT!
Will...
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated:
Have a 1998XJ. New Battery and New Starter. Drove it a couple days ago and it had absolutely no issues. Tried to start it today in the garage and cranks over fast, but no 'fire in the hole'.
Just got home and have not had a chance to troubleshoot...
SOLVED!
Curiosity got the better of me so I went out to take a 'look-see'. The top mounting pins were OK on the rear shocks, BUT the R/R lower rubber bushing eluded my initial inspection.. it was worn to the point it was allowing the lower mount to KLUNK.
'Want to thank you guys for the help...
YEP! Checked all the 'stuff' stored under the rear seat (Jack & stuff).
This is a stock XJ and "degree shims" are nothing I have ever heard of prior.
I am still not clear on just what a "bar-pin" shock is. Is it a type of shock, or is it something to do with its mounting? (I will do an...
