Wasn't under water...window broke and it put a couple inches in the floor boards. Power was out for 2 weeks and couldn't get to getting the water out for close to 3. I have put too much money into it to total it out. hah
It's a 1990 XJ by the way. Thanks for the quick replies. I am liking what i am hearing so far. I know there are wrecked newer XJs at pick-a-part all around so I guess I can go that route.
So Ike destroyed the inside of my project Cherokee. It is molded over and it wont come off. I tried every cleaning agent I could think of....not that my interior was nice in the first place but now its pretty much unusable. I would like to know what year Cherokee (and anything else) is a almost...
sorry about that I could have sworn I had my jeep listed in my sig. Its a 1990 4.0 aw4. I tried the starting in nuetral and that didnt work. I tapped the starter solenoid and sparks shot out but it still wouldnt start. I noticed that when I turn to start it a very slight thumping/tapping happens...
So my xj has been sitting for a while. It wont start now. The battery is fine. When I turn the key nothing happens. the volts look fine. how would I go about checking the starter? Anything else I should look at? thanks
well I did it and drove it around for a few minutes getting it up to about 70 and going through 1-D and it shifts fine...so I guess its a bad TCU?

So I got to the TCU and found this. It looks like someone hacked it up? Or does this look correct? Seems to be alot of electrical tape around the wires and doesnt look like the factory. The red 10V fuse....is that the one I remove? I thought it was suppose to be 15V? The red fuse is not blown...

Could this mess anything up by doing this permanently? My tranny is messing up pretty bad...wont shift out of 1st so I figure it is a TCU problem...or atleast thats where I am going to start the diagnose. fluid and filter are fine.
So I think I got that under control but the thought of...
ok...i still havnt messed with the tranny but it is working fine now...I am guessing it is like what wobbles said and there is junk built up. I am going to flush it and change the filter and see if that helps. The fluid seems level and fine right now (never been low or anything)
Another thing...
When I first got the jeep I put a new (used 80k miles) tranny in it and for a couple hundred miles it drove fine (after I got the TPS adjusted) and then on a trip it started jumping down a gear at 70MPH. It did this about 3 times on a 100 mile trip (highway driving). Now it will not shift out of...
xjnation,
What I mean is the inner axle shaft came out when I pulled out my axle shaft. There is a male end on the inner axle shaft and a female end on the (outer?) axle shaft. It came out as a whole. Could this have caused a problem if I didnt use the right procedure or whatever to put it...
yep. My 90 did the same thing. Adjusted the TPS and cleaned the heck out of the throttle body and it went down alot. My exhaust manifold gasket was also messed up and that caused some idle issues.

ok so I got my new U joints pressed in and I started putting it back together and when I put the axles in and started putting the hubs on I turned the hubs just to make sure they spun smooth and they dont. They are hard to turn and when they do turn they make a grinding noise (more of a feel...
hah ya I can see that now. I this these were the original Ujoints. I think i will use some anti-seize on them and make sure the corrosion is off. My jeep is pretty much stock but I plan to upgrade a bunch of suspension stuff soon enough so it will help to be able to yank them off easy. I got the...
