    '96 winshield washer

My '94 does it, too. I'm sure it's the same tank as your '96. The sensor is at the top of the bottle, with a foam float that rises/falls depending on the level of the fluid. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good method to fix it. The tank needs baffles. One could attempt to modify the buoyancy...

    Replacing thermostat -- drill holes?

My 1994 4.0L has been running cold lately. It eventually warms up to "normal" (around 210 on the gauge), but during highway driving it hovers around 130-155. Sure, the gauge/sensor could be wonky but I'd rather be safe and just replace the thermostat. I searched the threads here for some tips...

    2 door xj differences?

"Gaping holes" = flex, and 2 large gaping holes is worse than 4 smaller holes. Sedans/5-doors are almost always more structurally rigid than coupes/3-doors because the B-pillar is closer to the center of the vehicle, creating a more symmetric, balanced "grid". Also the reason why sedans...

    Electronics Gurus: Retained Accessory Power?

After I switch off the ignition, I'd like my radio to stay on until I open the door... and of course, stay off when I close the door again. It seems like this would be a fairly simple project with one or two relays... maybe a capacitor, now that I think about it. I just can't figure this out...

I've been thinking about commuting by bike... I'm 6 miles from work. How do you handle the clothing/sweatiness issue? :) Bring a change of clothes?

help a friend.. worth the read!

Definitely. He has a referral link to "Metrodate" which gives him some kind of kickback. Read this: http://www.metrodate.com/affiliateprogram/ He gets up to a 50% commission on each sign-up. Scam!

    radio went out

The oil/grease is most likely from the tape they used to bundle the wires.

    Upshift lamp

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm almost positive that my '94 (automatic) doesn't have a bulb in that socket. I'd assume that it's controlled by the ECU or TCU though, so even if you were to stick a bulb in there, it still wouldn't work.

    Dodge Caliber

The Caliber seems to be a pretty good value, and I love hatchbacks... but I just can't get over the ugly mini-Durango front end. The interior is nothing special, either... a lot of cheap-feeling plastic, just like the crap they used in the WK. Personally, I'd go with a Mazda3 5-door instead of...

    Dodge Caliber

Posture. Soft seats are bad for your back, and I find them extremely uncomfortable on long trips. I wish I could find some firm seats that would bolt in to the XJ!

    VW TDI People!!!

Good choice... there is nothing bad about them! Best car in its class and you can't beat the diesel's efficiency. If I was in the market for a $25k sedan, I'd get one.

Anything special about a 95 XJ?

Those were added for '94, actually. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=46011 As for the seat belts, I only noticed that because I've had to replace my driver's-side latch twice and all the '95s (and newer) I've seen at the junkyard have the orange-button latches, which...

Cardone or ASC water pumps ok?

Same story here... ASC pump from Autozone on a '94 and I installed it last March (also replaced the t-stat and housing, and all new hoses, too). No problems so far.

Maybe it was a mid-year thing. Does yours have an airbag?

Anything special about a 95 XJ?

'95 was the first year for the driver-side airbag. The 1995+ has different seatbelts, too... a narrower plate, and the latch assemblies have the big orange release buttons. You can swap the vent windows for the fixed windows if you'd really like... many people complain that they're noisy and...
