    A/C not cold enough...new parts/recharge

Hey, recently replaced the evaporator core in my '98 XJ 4.0L when I did my heater core a couple months or so ago. While I was at it i did the accumulator and liquid line. Today I did the compressor and then took it in to the mechanics to get vacuum pulled and recharged. My A/C is now cool, but...

Swapped heater core and now no ignition

Lord, I am a big dummy. I just had to walk away for a minute and then double check again, for the 15th time. I found I forgot to screw the big grey connecter thing to the right of the steering column back together. All good now.

Swapped heater core and now no ignition

Hey guys, Finally swapped my heater core and evap core today on my '98 XJ 4.0L. Was fun. Anyway, I pretty much have her buttoned up, but I get no action when I put the key in the ignition. From removing the dash I cannot recall anything I forgot to connect. I really didn't remove it though, I...

    Oil change - pressure change?

Drove home this afternoon and the pressure dropped again so when I got home I spent the time that it was cooling down replacing the spark plugs. Eventually I swapped the Fram Tough Guard for the Purolator and topped her off. Noticed that I gained about 5-8 lbs of pressure. Guess I'll stay away...

    Oil change - pressure change?

I picked up a purolator classic filter and a quart of oil a lil bit ago. Been driving around observing and my pressures about 50 driving and 30 idling. Been steady so far. If I have another issue like yesterday I'll swap this filter out with the purolator. Would the change from the Pennzoil...

    Oil change - pressure change?

Can I swap the filter out without losing all the new oil I just put in?

    Oil change - pressure change?

Hey guys. Decided to do my own oil changes now, which I don't know why I wouldn't have decided to do it sooner with everything else that I have tackled myself with the XJ. Anyway, last time my oil was changed at the typical quick lube place, Pennzoil was used, pretty sure I had them put in 5W30...

Weird smoke/steam from engine, and overheating. Hard to describe.

Drove home from work this afternoon. No overheating, but sweet baby jesus it was a hot/miserable ride home. It was about 90 degrees and humid in Indiana today. Not to mention it was pouring rain on half of the drive, so I couldn't put my damn windows down. I was a swampy mess. The A/C...

Weird smoke/steam from engine, and overheating. Hard to describe.

Most everything in cooling system had been replaced in the past 6 weeks. Clutch, radiator, coolant sensor, water pump, thermostat. Plus I spent 6 hours flushing the system. I also flushed out the heater core separately.

Weird smoke/steam from engine, and overheating. Hard to describe.

So I recharged my a/c today in my 98 XJ with the a/c pro recharge kit. A/c blew cold and great. Unfortunately we overheated again while sitting in the Jeep for my lunch break. I turned off the Jeep and let her cool down a bit then drove the mile back to work. Right after I pulled in and parked...

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

Mostly brake work I will not do. Every car I've owned I've had to do water pumps and stuff so that isn't an issue. I've never flushed a system before until the other day, so I'm glad I was able to gain something from the experience. I'm definitely going to try to be more preventative in the...

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

Well drove around for a while today getting estimates for a muffler repair and the temperature was fine. Drove around some more with ac on full blast. Stop and go traffic and highway the temperature stayed steady around 215/220. Didn't get close overheating. Appears that it was the fan clutch...

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

Yeah, mechanics said with the thermometer it only showed hot right in front of the water pump. Got the fan clutch on, and coolant temp sensor. My son was excited I let him do the sensor. (He's 7) I'll get out an drive tomorrow and see what goes.

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

I'll check the shroud I'm pretty sure it's in good shape. Last time it heated I popped the hood to check the lower hose for collapse, but it was in good form.

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

I had it running with the ac on when it got hot. I picked up a fan clutch (I put the one in it now about 2-3 years ago) I picked up a temp sensor too. Advanced had a 20% off coupon on their mobile site. Which was nice ;) Drove home from work and she was just under 210° the whole way, I didn't...

Weird overheating issue. Mechanics couldn't figure it out...

Sorry for the novel, but I want to be through in my explanation: Took 98 XJ to mechanic 2 weeks ago for brake work and overheating issues. Mechanics had my vehicle for a week, said they couldn't figure out the overheating issue. They said electric fan was bad and need replaced and it needed...
