Out of my league - need some help

Careful guys with the information being spit out.....Sway Bars, or correctly named- Anti-Sway Bars, are there to control roll motion, or body lean, on turns. They are nice to have for a DD, but the vehicle, if in good condition and with a front end in good condition, will operate just fine...

    2001 Cherokee 4.0 small leak

I noticed you are in Wisconsin. Heres the thing, I have an '01 also, and I know EXACTLY what whistling noise you are talking about. I used to live there up until about 2 1/2 years ago. The whistling on mine only came around when the cold weather showed up. In the summer, GONE! I never did figure...

    Radiator recommendations?

I installed a CSF 3-core all metal rad over a year ago. It has performed well so far. Cooling is great from what can be expected from the stock cooling system, especially here in the crucible.

    Flowmaster = Garbage

Although Ive had good luck with Flowmaster so far, I absolutely LOVE the aFe cat back system on my '01 XJ. Its a 2 1/2" Stainless with a nice flat-cut turndown at the tip, sounds great, flows great, and was easy to install because everything needed was there. Its P/N-49-46225. Go to their...

    front end noise

A bunch of good suggestions here for listening to noises. Ill second the motion for jacking up the rear of the vehicle to listen for differential noises. Use a jackstand on each side for this, and chock the front wheels. Just put it in drive and let it idle as the rear axle is spinning. i found...

    Windshield Seal

Ive been through this just recently. The fact that you have water leaking means that the seal that actually seals the windshield is bad. That outer seal helps to keep water out of that gap and for aerodynamics. But, that outer seal needs to be installed WITH the windshield. It will not properly...

Broken Radiator Electric Fan - best replacement?

Simply by design, a quality curved-blade fan will be noticeably quieter than a straight bladed fan, or the stock type fixed bladed thermostatic fan. The newer curved bladed fans may make more of a whooshing noise, but that is the noise from the air they are moving, not so much the fan itself...

    Camshaft upgrade

I did a rebuild not too long ago on my '01 and used a pretty good cam that was recommended to me. I'll see if i can find the spec sheet for it. It was a really good choice, I have been very happy with it as it made a good noticeable improvement over the stock cam. Not sure if it will work for...

Broken Radiator Electric Fan - best replacement?

Do not replace the mechanical fan with a flex fan, mistake. For the electric, use a SPAL fan, they are some of the best! Go to their website and look under the 11" fans. Get a bracket kit, too. Easy to install. Works way better than the stock electric fan.

Broken piston skirt in 94 xj??

Heres my two cents, take it any way you want. You say it runs smooth, which rules out a bad, bent, broken, or otherwise faulty pushrod. If it was a bad, bent, broken, or otherwise shitty pushrod, trust me, it would not run smooth. Do yourself a favor, dont guess at any of this, check these...

    Check Engine light operation

So, on my '01 XJ 4L, I went to get an emissions check a few days ago and it failed due to an intermittent misfire. It was throwing codes for all three ignition coils. No problem, I changed the ignition coil bar yesterday, erased the trouble codes this morning, and took it for a long drive before...

    Headliner restoration (paint, no fabric)

This is an excellent write up. I am getting to this stage myself. I have an '01 with an interior of the same color, and the headliner is just starting to drop. Not to the point where it is scraping my head, but it will be soon. Im in AZ, so I would think that not only the insulation you used...

    AZ Emissions Help

Same here, glad to hear you passed. What brand catalytic converter did you use?

    AZ Emissions Help

Well, for starters, it could be worse and you could be dealing with an '01 like mine that has three catalytic converters and four oxygen sensors. Or two pre-cats and one main cat, however you want to look at it. But for starters, I dont know how to read the emissions readout numbers you posted...

    Adding a factory electric fan?

If there are no contacts there (which would surprise me because of the whole 'speed on the assembly-line' thing), it might be easier to get an aftermarket kit that includes the fan, relay, an assortment of simple brackets, etc. Ive never done it myself, but have read stories online of guys...

    inner axle seal

Another thing too, is that if you do not want to get to the job right away, let it leak until the level of the fluid inside the housing stabilizes (through leakage). The bottom of the fill hole is almost exactly at the same level as the bottom surface as the tube. As it leaks, it will eventually...

    New Motor Running Cool

As cruiser stated, any remaining air would have escaped through normal operating cycles. If I were in your shoes, the first step I'd take would be to take out the thermostat and test it in a pot of water on the stove with a thermometer. They are not accurate as you will see, including the OEM...

2001 XJ 4.0 rebuild: issues and weirdness

Well, you figured out the bolt 'Issue' before I could answer in, so thats that. All that stuff has to come out anyway, just make a list of what you took apart and in what order. I rebuilt my 4 liter recently, and questioned to myself the same thing about the head gasket coolant holes. The stock...

Disabling individual cylinders on a 2001?

Hey Anthrax, just went through your situation myself, mine was the number 6 piston skirt. Rebuilt the entire engine (but not stroked) and went with a hotter cam. All quality parts this time, not like the original junk. It should outlast the vehicle now, runs really great. If you need any advice...
